On Good Friday\, we remember Christ’s suffering an
d death. His self-sacrifice is good to us who believe because it paid for
our debt of sin and opened the way for our reconciliation with God.
\nThe Service of Tenebrae (“shadows”) dates back to eighth-century Rome. T
he most significant aspect of this service is the gradual extinguishing of
the lights and candles in the room\, symbolizing the flight of the apostl
es and the darkness and disturbance that accompanied Christ’s passion. The
central purpose of the service is for us to encounter the reality of Chri
st’s death and admit our part in it.
\nRedeemer’s Tenebrae Service wi
ll be at 7:30 P.M. in the sanctuary.
