Join us in the sanctuary for a special Ash Wednesday Service as we begin the season of Lent.
The word Lent comes from an Anglo-Saxon word referring to the lengthening of days in the move from winter to spring. The season begins with Ash Wednesday and lasts for forty days (excluding Sundays). This is a reflective and penitential season, when Christians examine themselves and they remember the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus on their behalf. Significant days observed during the Lenten season include Ash Wednesday, the Sundays in Lent, and the days of Holy Week (including Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday).
Ash Wednesday calls Christians to remember their mortality and their need for a Savior. It is a time of new beginning… putting aside the sins and failures of the past in light of who we are yet to become by the grace of God. The ashes are a sign of both mortality (“ashes to ashes and dust to dust”) and purification and cleansing. The tone and atmosphere of the worship service is solemn and meditative.
Redeemer’s Ash Wednesday Service will be at 7:00 P.M. in the sanctuary. (Bible study, prayer group, ESL, and CREW will begin at 7:30 P.M.)
Flowering the Cross
Holy Saturday, April 3, 2021
We will have the cross outside the main entrance for people to come and decorate with flowers for Easter. It will symbolize the new life we have in Christ.
Stop by any time on Saturday to add a flower or two. Remember to follow pandemic protocols if you happen to stop by when others are there, too.
Redeemer’s parking lot will be transformed with decorated vehicles, folks in costumes, free treats, and lots of fun. This is a wonderful opportunity to go beyond the church walls and meet and greet our neighbors while also providing a safe place for the children in our community to go trick-or-treating.
Invite your neighbors and friends!
Look for volunteer signups in the church lobby:
- Volunteer to decorate your vehicle’s trunk, fill it with treats, and hand out candy!
- Help with other activities
Donations needed:
- Bags of candy – drop off in the red bin in the foyer
- Baked goodies for the cake walk – deliver by 6:00 pm on the 31st
Set-up on the 31st starts at 4:30 pm
