On Good Friday, we remember Christ’s suffering and death. His self-sacrifice is good to us who believe because it paid for our debt of sin and opened the way for our reconciliation with God.
The Service of Tenebrae (“shadows”) dates back to eighth-century Rome. The most significant aspect of this service is the gradual extinguishing of the lights and candles in the room, symbolizing the flight of the apostles and the darkness and disturbance that accompanied Christ’s passion. The central purpose of the service is for us to encounter the reality of Christ’s death and admit our part in it.
Redeemer’s Tenebrae Service will be at 7:30 P.M. in the sanctuary.

Happy Mother’s Day!
We honor the women in our lives today for their contribution to our well-being and character, as well as for their service to the life of the church. Today as we remember our mothers, we pray for all the women who mean so much to us and for the women in society who are so vital to our daily lives.
“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne?” (Isaiah 49:15a)
Prayers of Thanks
- For our mother’s willingness to provide us with life
- For our mother’s patience and hard work in raising us
- For all the women who nurture us, guide us, and play important roles in our lives and the lives of our children
Prayers of Blessing for All the Women in Our Lives
- May God reveal Himself to them
- May they draw nearer and nearer to God
- May God guide them and give wisdom for each day
- May God heal all their hurts and comfort all their sorrows
- May God grant them strength and good health
- May God provide for all their needs
- May we be a blessing to them
“As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.” (Isaiah 66:13)
